Pembakaran adalah reaksi kimia antara bahan bakar dengan oksigen diiringi kenaikan panas dan nyala. Pada pembakaran dalam silinder motor, pembentukan panas itulah yang dibutuhkan. Hasil reaksi kimia dibuang sebagai asap, dan tenaga panas itu selanjutnya akan diubah menjadi tenaga mekanis (Santoso, 2012 : 33).
