Tidak seperti manusia biasa yang di besarkan oleh bapak dan ibunya, akan tetapi dia merupakan seorang anak yang di bersarkan oleh sekelompok hewan yang berada di hutan. seperti Srigala, Monyet, Macan Kumbang dan lain lain. dia tidak memiliki ayah dan ibunya. sejak kecil dia bersama ayahnya pergi kehutan bersama. tetapi suatu ketika ada seekor harimau yang bernama shere khan dia sangat jahat dan sangat membenci manusia.suatu ketika pada saat malam hari ayah dan mowgli menetap di goa untuk istirahat. lalu datanglah shere khan yang datang secara tiba-tiba untuk membunuh ayah mowgli.ayahnya menyadari ada harimau masuk kedalam goa. dia segera mengambil api dan membuat obor untuk melawan harimau. tetapi harimau itu telah membunuh ayah mowgli. tetapi saat yang sama dia terkena api atau bunga merah. dia sangat kesakitan lalu pergi meninggalkan mereka berdua. tetapi mowgli tidak punya ayah lagi. dia ditemukan oleh black panther. lalu black panther memberikan mowgli ke gerombolan serigala. ketua serigala bernama akela siap mengasuh dia dan mengajari dia cara hidup menjadi serigala. tetapi black panther selalu mengawasi dia selalu. suatu ketika terjadi panas yang terik melanda wilayah hutan.
