Burung air adalah jenis burung yang seluruh hidupnya berkaitan dengan daerah perairan, dimana sebagian besar burung air berada di daerah tropis dan subtropis. Biasanya mereka menjadikan daerah perairan sebagai habitatnya, seluruh aktivitas hidupnya bergantung pada keberadaan daerah tersebut. Mangrove merupakan habitat bagi berbagai jenis satwa seperti burung. Jenis burung yang hidup di daerah mangrove tidak selalu sama dengan jenis-jenis yang hidup di daerah hutan sekitarnya, karena sifat khas hutan mangrove. Tujuandaripenelitianiniuntukmengetahuikomposisijenisburung air,tingkatkehadiran jenis burung air, dan nilai indeks keanekaragaman jenis burung air pada hutan mangrove di Desa Khatulistiwa.Penelitian dilakukan selama tiga bulan yaitu dari bulan Juni sampai Agustus 2014.Metodepenelitian yang digunakanyaitumetodetransekjalursuatumetode yang digunakan dimanapengamatberjalandenganmengikutiarahdanletakgaristengahtranseksecaraperlahan-lahansekaligusmencatatsemuajenisburung air yang dijumpai. Hasil Penelitian di lokasi pesisir pantai terdapat 8 jenis burung air dengan jumlah populasi sebanyak 67 ekor dan pada lokasi hutan mangrove terdapat 7 jenis burung air dengan jumlah populasi sebanyak 49 ekor. Mewakili 4 famili.Terdapat tiga jenis burung air yang sering ditemukan pada Hutan mangrove dan pesisir pantai yaituHalcyon chloris, Dendrocygna arcuata, dan Alcedo meninting.Pengamatan di pesisir pantai didapatkan nilai indekskeanekaragamanjenis sebesar H’=1.5397 dan pengamatan di hutan mangrove didapatkan nilai indeks keanekaragamanjenis sebesar H’=1.4092.
