Teori yang terdiri atas unsur unsur yang berhubungan secara sintagmatis dan paradigmatis dan menentang teori mimetic, teori ekspresif dan menentang teori yang menganggap sastra sebagai media komunikasi antara pengarang dan pembaca. Structualism dibagi menjadi 3 bagian yaitu formalis,genetik,dan dinamik yang dikembangkan oleh ferdinand de sausessure sehingga memunculkan konsep sign and meaning.


Hermeneutika adalah sebuah metode yang memahami teks yang diuraikan dan diperuntukkan bagi penelaahan teks karya sastra, apapun bentuknya berkaitan dengan penafsir yang terbagi menjadi tiga unsur yakni mengukapkan,
Menjelaskan dan menerjemahkan.
