Penangkapan M bermula, ketika anggota Direktorat Narkoba Polda Sumut mendapatkan informasi dari masyarakat di Malaysia bahwa telah terjadi pengiriman narkoba jenis sabu dalam jumlah besar yang baru saja dikirim melalui jalur laut dan ditujukan kepada M.

Mendapatkan informasi tersebut, petugas lalu melakukan penyelidikan terhadap M, ternyata M merupakan salah satu bandar besar di Sumatera Utara.

"Kita lalu melakukan penggerebekan dilokasi seterusnya pelaku kita tangkap dan barang bukti kita sita seberat 1 Kg," ujar Helfi.

Setelah dilakukan interogasi, ternyata sabu tersebut diperoleh dari seorang yang berinisial I. Kini keberadaan I belum diketahui.

"Jadi, sebagian besar sabu yang diterima pelaku telah terjual ke pengedarnya di Medan, Aceh dan Riau. Sedangkan sabu 1 Kilogram ini adalah sisanya. Saat ini petugas sedang melakukan pengembangan terhadap jaringan tersangka dengan berkoordinasi dengan Polda Aceh dan Polda Riau," tandas Helfi.
