Berdasarkan citra satelit Landsat 5 TM, Pada tahun 1999 vegetasi mangrove mulai teridentifikasi banyak tumbuh dengan membentuk koloni-koloni di sepanjang pesisir Kabupaten Demak, umumnya mangrove tumbuh diatas tanah timbul yang terbentuk karena sedimentasi. Luas vegetasi mangrove diperkirakan terus meningkat, akan tetapi peningkatan luas manrove tersebut selalu dibarengi dengan peningkatan luasan tambak, khususnya di wilayah sekitar Sungai Wulan.
Pada rentang tahun 1999-2002 Abrasi di Desa Sriwulan dan sebagian Desa Bedono kembali semakin bertambah luas, dengan jangkauan abrasi ± 600 meter, hal tersebut diperparah dengan banyaknya tanggul-tanggul tambak yang rusak yang kemudian berimplikasi pada terbentuknya kolam cekungan (basin) diantara dua sungai dan Luas areal persawahan di sempadan sungai terus tergenang dalam waktu yang cukup lama.
