Ibnu ‘Abd al-Salam secara sederhana menjelaskan bahwa ‘Ubadah menolak berteman dan bersekutu dengan orang-orang Yahudi, karena mereka memusuhi umat Islam. Sedangkan Abdullah bin Ubay masih setia dengan orang-orang Yahudi, karena ia menghindari datangnya musibah yang lebih besar jika berpisah dengan mereka.
