Setiap industri yang berusaha untuk beroperasi secara efektif dan efisien akan memerlukan akses ke sumber daya material, pemasaran dan pusat jasa-jasa industri lain termasuk kabupaten kota di Provinsi Jawa Tengah yang terbagi dalam 6 eks karesidenan Kedu terhadap pusat pertumbuhan ekonomi (Kota Semarang). Suatu daerah yang terletak di area yang menawarkan akses ke lokasi pusat-pusat pengaruh industri tersebut akan memiliki keuntungan komparatif yang lebih kuat daripada kompetitornya untuk menarik unit-unit industri. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menghitung dari model jarak dan interaksi spasial dalam permodelan struktur spasial untuk perencanaan regional dan perkotaan. Analisis yang dipergunakan adalah indeks lokasional dengan data berupa PDRB atas dasar harga konstan, jarak antara kabupaten kota di eks karesidenan dengan Kota Semarang. Kesimpulan dari kajian ini adalah fungsi jarak antara daerah dengan pusat pertumbuhan memiliki pengaruh utama pusat dengan biaya transportasi disamping itu juga merupakan fungsi kontinuitas spasial daerah.
