Film ini menceritakan tentang seorang anak dari pemilik kebun binatang di india . Pi yang mempunyai nama lengkap piscine patel selalu memotong namanga menjadi Pi untuk menghindari ejekab teman temanya. Pi adalah anak yg sangat penasaran dengan semua hal terutama saat mencari tahu keberadaan tuhan.
Lalu Pi menganut 4 agama sekaligus yaitu muslim , kristen , yahudi , hindu. Kemudian keluarga Pi memutuskan untuk pindah ke kanada.
