Irreversibel, anak-anak belum bisa berpikir sebagai kebalikan cara berpikir semula. c). Terpusat (centering) artinya pemikiran anak hanya tertuju pada aspek atau detail dari suatu peristiwa atau obyek dan aspek yang lainnya diabaikan. d). Perhatian terpusat pada aspek yang statis, artinya anak belum mampu memahami transformasi pada suatu obyek. e). Penalaran transduktif, cara penalaran anak tidak bisa dikategorikan dalam bentuk penalaran induktif maupun deduktif. f). Concerenteness, kemampuan berpikir anak masih berorientasi pada hal-hal yang kongkrit (Natsir. 2004: 8). Pada Tahap operasional kongkrit perkiraan usianya adalah 7 sampai 11 tahun dan kemampuan utama yaitu perbaikan dalam kemampuan untuk berfikir secara logis, kemampuan-kemampuan baru termasuk penggunaan operasi-operasi yang dapat balik. Pemikiran tidak lagi sentrasi tetapi desentrasi, dan pemecahan masalah tidak begitu dibatasi oleh keegosentrisan (Trianto. 2007: 15). Pada tahap operasi formal perkiraan usianya 11 tahun sampai dewasa (Trianto. 2007: 15). Kemudian ditambahkan oleh Natsir (2004: 9) anak pada operasi formal sudah bisa menggunakan operasi logisnya untuk menyelesaikan tugas atau masalah yang bersifat verbal, rumit dan kompleks. Selain operasi logis, anak-anak operasi formal sudah mampu berpikir hipotik-deduktif, yaitu suatu kemampuan menyusun serangkaian hipotesis dan menguji hipotesis mana yang benar. Kemampuan berpikir probabilitas atau kombinatorial yaitu suatu kemampuan menyusun berbagai kombinasi yang mungkin pada unsur-unsur dari suatu sistem. Ciri yang keempat adalah berpikir reflektif yaitu kemampuan memikirkan kembali cara berpikirnya sendiri untuk mendapatkan hasil yang lebih baik (Natsir. 2004: 9-10).
