Berdasarkan pemantauan Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah (BPDB) Riau, luas lahan yang terbakar di Riau per tanggal 24 Agustus 2015 adalah 1.957 ha. Areal tersebut mengalami penurunan dibandingkan dengan tahun 2014 yaitu mencapai 22.037 ha. Sedangkan hotspot (titik api) pada tahun 2015 adalah 122 titik. Kabut asap yang terjadi di Sumatera khususnya di Riau memberikan dampak, baik dampak terhadap kesehatan maupun secara sosial.
