"Kami terus mengevaluasi keadaan dan nanti sore akan melakukan evaluasi guna memastikan kenyamanan pengunjung dan keamanan Candi Borobudur. Pembukaan akan dilakukan bertahap. Pengunjung tidak boleh langsung naik sampai zona I atau di candinya," ujar Laily.

Didampingi Kepala Unit Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Bambang Irianto menurut Laily,
penanganan abu vulkanik Gunung Kelud yang menempel di Candi Borobudur karena hujan abu pada Jumat (14/2/14) pagi terus dilakukan.

Jika dinilai sudah memungkinkan, ujar Laily, kegiatan kepariwisataan Candi Borobudur segera dibuka, meskipun dalam area terbatas.

Pada hari biasa, jumlah pengunjung Candi Borobudur yang dibangun sekitar abad ke-8 masa Dinasti Syailendra itu, antara 3.000-4.000 orang, sedangkan hari Sabtu dan Minggu antara 4.000-5.000 orang, baik wisatawan nusantara maupun mancanegara.

Sejak Jumat lalu pihak Candi Borobudur mulai membersihkan kawasan wisata tersebut dari abu vulkanik Gunung Kelud. Merek juga membuka dapur umum untuk menyiapkan logistik para personel yang membersihkan Candi Borobudur dari abu vulkanik Gunung Kelud.

Sedangakn Kepala Balai Konservasi Borobudur Marsis Sutopo mengatakan bahwa pembersihan Candi Borobudur dari abu vulkanik dengan menggunakan cara kering, butuh sekitar 10 hari, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan cara basah yang sekitar empat hari.
