Dengan pesatnya perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan, kita dituntut untuk dapat berperan aktif di dalamnya, oleh karena itu kita hendaknya dapat memberikan sumbangan yang berharga di dalam pendidikan. Sejalan dengan hal itu perlu dikembangkan iklim belajar mengajar yang dapat menunjang keberhasilan siswa.Berdasarkan uraian di atas, timbul anggapan bahwa prestasi belajar dipengaruhi oleh beberapa factor diantaranya bimbingan orang tua dan kemandirian dalam belajar. Berbagai hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bila orang tua berperan dalam pendidikan anaknya menunjukkan peningkatan prestasi belajarnya, diikuti dengan perbaikan sikap dan kedisiplinan. Mengingat demikian penting peranan orang tua dalam pendidikan anak menjadi bermanfaat dalam reformasi pendidikan utamanya melalui peningkatan mutu apabila dikaitkan dengan prestasi belajar IPS.Untuk membantu menumbuhkan kemampuan belajar mandiri, siswa harus mempelajari keterampilan-keterampilan belajar secara mandiri, maka fasilitator dapat memperkuat atau membantu bagaimana mereka menumbuhkan keterampilan-keterampilan belajar seperti mengerjakan dan mengevaluasi soal-soal, membuat rangkuman, membuat catatan-catatan penting, membaca secara efektif dan membuat pemetaaan konsep-konsep penting.Sehingga dengan demikian akan sangat mudah mengetahui adanya pengaruh kemandirian belajar terhadap prestasi belajar siswa kelas VI SD Islam Puspa Bangsa Cluring Banyuwangi
