Kenapa kemudian terjadi perang terbuka, dan turunnya ayat-ayat tentang perang.
Harus diketahui bahwa meski Rasulullah (pbuh) dan sebagian besar pengikutnya telah hijrah ke Medinah, namun para kafir penyembah berhala Mekkah terus melakukan pengejaran dan selalu berusaha menyerang Medinah. Inilah yang kemudian menyebabkan terjadinya beberapa perang terbuka antara Islam dan para penyembah berhala.
(sejarah mencatat bahwa perang terbuka yang pertama adalah perang Badr, dimana sekitar 500 pasukan Islam berhasil mengalahkan ribuan kaum kafir.)
