Di wilayah barat daya pesisir Kabupaten Demak lahan pertanian (sawah) teridentifikasi banyak yang dikonversi menjadi tambak, hal tersebut diduga karena intrusi air laut telah terjadi di wilayah ini yang menyebabkan penurunan kualitas air yang digunakan untuk pengairan sawah. sehingga kawasan persawahan mulai bergeser ke arah daratan dengan jarak dari garis pantai mencapai 2 km.
