Alga coklat merupakan salah satu sumber daya alam laut yang keberadaannya sangat melimpah di laut Indonesia. Warna alga coklat berasal dari salah satu pigmen dominan alga coklat yaitu fukosantin. Fukosantin memiliki sifat antioksidan yang kuat, aktivitas antioksidan bersifat sensitif terhadap cahaya dan panas. Tujuan dari Karya Tulis Ilmiah ini untuk mengetahui hubungan antara suhu, lama pengeringan dan proses ekstraksi terhadap senyawa fukosantin dengan aktivitas antioksidan. Pengeringan menggunakan metode oven dan aktivitas antioksidan di uji dengan penangkapan radikal bebas DPPH (1,1-difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil). Aktivitas antioksidan padina australis yang dikeringkan pada suhu 500C selama 4 jam memiliki aktivitas yang paling kuat (37.68 ppm). Hasil ekstraksi dengan pelarut organik menunjukan bahwa pelarut metanol dapat mengekstrak fukosantin lebih optimal dibandingkan dengan etanol, DMSO, asetonitril dan aseton. Proses pengeringan menggunakan oven pada suhu 500C selama 4 jam dan ekstraksi dengan pelarut metanol dapat meningkatkan kadar senyawa fukosantin dan aktivitas antioksidan.

The drying process using the oven at a temperature of 500C for 4 hours and extraction with solvents methanol can increase the levels of fukosantin compounds and antioxidant activities.
