Strategi pembelajaran yang aktif dalam proses pembelajaran adalah siswa diharapkan aktif terlibat dalam kegiatan pembelajaran untuk berpikir, berinteraksi ,berbuat untuk mencoba,menemukan konsep baru menghasilkan suatu karya. Sebaliknya, anak tidak diharapkan pasif menerima layaknya gelas kosong yang menunggu untuk diisi. Siswa bukan lah gelas kosong yang pasif yang haya menerima kecuran ceramah sang guru tentang pengetahuan atau informasi sebagai mana yang digambarkan diatas.
Zuhairini mengemukakan bahwa:
Strategi belajar aktif dapat diartikan sebagai proses belajar mengajar yang menggunakan berbagai metode, yang menitikberatkan kepada keaktifan siswa dan melibatkan berbagai potensi siswa, baik yang bersifat fisik, mental, emosional maupun intelektual untuk mencapai tujuan pendidikan yang berhubungan dengan wawasan kognitif, afektif, dan psikomotorik secara optimal.
Strategi Active Learning menurut Hamdani (2011:49) bahwa: “Strategi Belajar aktif Active Learning adalah salah satu cara atau strategi belajar mengajar yang menuntut keaktifan serta partisipasi siswa dalam setiap kegiatan belajar seoptimal mungkin sehingga siswa mampu mengubah tinggah lakunya secara efektif dan efisien”.
Strategi belajar aktif juga dimaksudkan cara-cara yang dilakukan oleh pengajar untuk menjaga perhatian siswa/peserta didik agar tetap tertuju pada proses pembelajaran yang memperbanyak aktivitas siswa dalam mengakses berbagai informasi dari berbagai sumber, untuk dibahas dalam proses pembelajaran dalam kelas, sehingga memperoleh berbagai pengalaman yang tidak saja menambah pengetahuan.
