Peran Penguatan Geopolitik ASEAN

Palembang, Jia Xiang - Redaktur Senior harian Jakarta Post, Sabam Siagian, mengatakan Konfederasi Wartawan ASEAN (CAJ) harus mengambil peran dalam isu penguatan geopolitik kawasan ASEAN.

"Banyak pihak yang ingin menanamkan pengaruhnya di ASEAN seperti China dan Amerika Serikat. Media harus berperan dalam penguatan geopolitik ASEAN," kata Sabam Siagian di Palembang, Selasa (11/2/14) pada Workshop CAJ.

Pembicara lain adalah Pemimpin Redaksi Vivanews Zulfiani Lubis di sesi bertema "Media sosial vs media konvensional. Workshop itu adalah program perdana dari Pusat Pendidikan dan Pelatihan Wartawan ASEAN (CAJET) yang akan didirikan di Palembang.

Sabam menambahkan, negara-negara anggota ASEAN akan membentuk Masyarakat Ekonomi ASEAN (MEA) 2015 dengan tiga pilar utama, yaitu politik hukum dan keamanan, ekonomi dan sosial budaya. Merupakan pandangan yang ambisius, mungkin tidak 100 persen dari tujuan itu tercapai, tapi setidaknya ASEAN sudah memiliki rencana yang strategis, ujar Sabam yang dikutip Antara, Selasa (11/2/14).

Menurut dia, CAJ harus berupaya mengembangkan wartawan yang menjadi anggotanya untuk fokus pada isu-isu yang menjadi misi mereka, antara lain bencana alam, saling klaim wilayah antarnegara, konflik dalam negeri, keamanan pelayaran, hak para pekerja migran, kekerasan HAM serius, masalah urbanisasi dan hutan.

Pendirian CAJET merupakan mandat dari Deklarasi Manila yang disepakati pada Sidang Umum CAJ pada November 2013. CAJET diresmikan oleh Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono pada peringatan Hari Pers Nasional di Bengkulu, Minggu (9/2/14). [EK/S1]
