RSUP dr Kariadi Semarang adalah salah satu rumah sakit provinsi milik pemerintah provinsi Jawa Tengah, rumah sakit ini merupakan terbesar di wilayah Jawa Tengah sehingga dapat juga berfungsi sebagai rumah sakit rujukan untuk wilayah tersebut. Saat ini RSUP dr Kariadi adalah Rumah Sakit kelas A Pendidikan dan berfungsi sebagai Rumah sakit Pendidikan bagi dokter, dokter spesialis,dan sub spesialis dari FK UNDIP,dan Institusi Pendidikan lain serta tenaga kesehatan lainnya. RSUP Dr. Kariadi adalah Satuan Kerja/ Unit Pelaksana Teknis yang berada di bawah dan bertanggungjawab kepada Direktur Jenderal Bina Upaya Kesehatan Kementerian Kesehatan RI. Pada saat sekarang ini RSUP dr Kariadi telah ditetapkan menjadi Badan Layanan Umum (BLU), dengan menerapkan fleksibilitas pengelolaan keuangan sesuai dengan yang telah diamanatkan pada peraturan pemerintah.

RSUP dr Kariadi memilik tugas pokok dalam hal menyelenggarakan upaya penyembuhan dan pemulihan yang dilaksanakan secara serasi, terpadu dan berkesinambungan dengan upaya peningkatan kesehatan dan pencegahan serta melaksankan upaya rujukan dan upaya lain sesuai dengan kebutuhan.
