Bahasa inggris sering digambarkan sebagai “Lingua Franca” atau dalam kata lain merupakan sebuah bahasa dominan, yang ditetapkan sebagai bahasa internasional, baik dalam bidang komunikasi, sains, teknologi informasi, bahkan diplomasi. Dapat dibuktikan dengan masih bertahannya eksistensi daripada bahasa ini sendiri dalam kehidupan sekarang ini. Bahasa inggris juga merupakan bahasa yang paling banyak digunakan di dunia. Tak heran, setiap hari jutaan orang menggunakan bahasa inggris di tempat kerja maupun di kehidupan sosial.
Di negara kita, bahasa inggris bisa dikatakan sebagai bahasa kedua dari bahasa utama kita, yaitu Bahasa Indonesia. Di era global seperti sekarang ini, akan semakin banyak perkembangan yang terjadi, mulai dari perdagangan bebas, semakin banyaknya berdiri perusahaan-perusahaan asing di indonesia sehingga penggunaan bahasa internasional seperti bahasa inggris diharapkan menjadi sebuah angin segar, terutama bagi kita semua yang terjun dalam pendalaman materi bahasa inggris.
