Perbedaan antara nilai dengan objek ideal pada umumnya juga dibuat dengan pernyataan bahwa objek ideal itu “ada” (are), sedangkan nilai itu “tidak ada” (aren’t): mereka hanya memiliki nilai. Perbedaan nilai ini dibuat oleh Lotze, seperti yang kita lihat dalam bab-bab yang berikutnya, adalah sangat berguna dalam rangka menunjukkan perbedaan antara berbagai objek yang biasanya dikacaukan, namun itu mudah dikritik atas dasar teoritis (Ananta, 1994:8).
