Pada saat ini perkembangan dunia teknologi semakin berkembang, perkembangan ini dipicu karena tiap orang sangat membutuhkan suatu informasi.
Salah satunya adalah komputer, keberadaan komputer telah memberi manfaat yang sangat besar dalam pengaksesan informasi. Kebutuhan akan hal tersebut telah banyak dimanfaatkan untuk kebutuhan pengguna dalam berbagai aspek. Berbagasi jenis aplikasi telah dikembangkan diantaranya game, yang merupakan implementasi pengembangan permainan klasik menjadi aplikasi game digital. Semakin menariknya sebuah aplikasi game dapat dimainkan dengan perangkat komputer menjadi daya tarik bagi pengguna, terlebih dengan permainan yang dapat dimainkan bersama-sama atau multiplayer. Konsep permainan multiplayer biasanya terhubung pada jaringan lokal yang memanfaatkan LAN (Local Area Network) maupun WLAN (Wireless Lokal Area Network). Banyak permainan klasik yang masih dimainkan hingga sekarang, salah satu permainan klasik yang sering dimainkan hingga sekarang adalah catur. Catur merupakan permainan yang memanfaatkan 2 (dua) orang pemain, dimana permainan ini memanfaatkan daya pikir dan saling menyerang serta bertahan antar pemain yang memanfaatkan strategi permainan hingga salah satu pemain kalah dan pemenang. penulis berinisiatif merancang sebuah aplikasi game catur yang dapat dimainkan dengan 2 (dua) orang pemain dengan memanfaatkan koneksi jaringan WiFi Ad-hoc, konsep perancangan dan penulisan skripsi ini penulis angkat dengan tema “Aplikasi Game Catur Multiplayer Dengan Koneksi Jaringan WiFi Ad-Hoc”.
