Buku ini menceritakan kisah tentang seorang dosen paruh waktu bernama Zafira. Dia mempunyai mahasiswa yang sudah dianggap anaknya sendiri yang bernama Gaye. Zafira terlalu mengorbankan waktunya untuk Gaye mendengarkan keluh kesah Gaye hingga berjam-jam terutama masalah dengan pacarnya. Padahal belum tentu Gaye itu tahu terima kasih dan memikirkan Zafira. Jay adalah seorang sahabat Zafira yang selalu mengingatkan Zafira untuk tidak selalu mengutamakan Gaye ketimbang dirinya. Sudah berkali-kali hal itu dilakukan Jay tetapi tetap tidak membuat Zafira bergeming. Jay menilai Gaye tidak punya maksud yang baik pada Zafira. Zafira hanya dimanfaatkan saja. Tapi Zafira mengingatkan Jay untuk tidak berprasangka buruk. Zafira sering dibuat galau oleh tingkah laku atau masalah yang dialami Gaye. Sudah sering ada tanda-tanda kalau Gaye bukanlah anak yang baik. Hingga suatu saat Zafira sudah tidak mampu untuk meladeni ulah Gaye dan hubungan mereka akhirnya terputus karena ketidaksesuaian pendapat satu sama lain hingga puncaknya Gaye menghapus kontak BBM nya dari Zafira. Otomatis hubungan yang terjalin selama 6 tahun terputus sama sekali.Gaye bekerja di rumah sakit jiwa tempat Dokter Hadi bekerja. Dokter Hadi menginginkan agar Gaye menikah dengan putranya yang bernama Andito. Dokter Hadi menggunakan pelet agar bisa meluluhkan hati Gaye dan keluarganya. Andito yang mempunyai julukan “The Devil” sangat ingin menguasai harta orang tua Gaye. Dia dan ayahnya menyusun siasat walaupun melanggar aturan agama. Gaye yang sebelumnya berpacaran dengan Zack akhirnya memutuskan Zack dengan alasan ingin sendiri dahulu, tidak ingin diganggu pekerjaannya sebagai dokter muda. Zack menjadi frustasi melampiaskannya dengan memukul-mukul tembok hingga banyak mengeluarkan darah. Dia ditemukan koma oleh sepupunya Dokter Mike dan dibawa ke rumah sakit Illionis, rumah sakit yang didirikan oleh Profesor Ibrahim yang tidak lain adalah ayahnya. Ibu Zack yang bernama Dokter Claire tidak tega melihat kondisi anaknya. Dia geram dengan ulah Gaye “The Monster” yang telah masuk ke kehidupan keluarganya. Dokter Claire berharap anaknya segera pulih. Profesor Ibrahim menugaskan Dokter Andina untuk merawat dan menyembuhkan Zack hinggu pulih. Dokter Andina adalah anak asuh Zafira dan sudah menganggap Zafira seperti orang tuanya sendiri. Dokter Andina sudah sejak lama menaruh hati kepada Zack dengan senang hati merawat Zack. Zack dengan kondisi fisik lemah jantung dan psikis yang terpuruk sangat membutuhkan bantuan Dokter Andina. Dokter Andina dengan telaten merawat Zack. Hari demi hari mereka lalui. Seperti biasa Zack tetap bersikap dingin terhadap Dokter Andina. Dokter Andina sering membawakan bunga dan memberikan motivasi kepada Zack. Hingga akhirnya buah dari kesabaran dan kelembutan Dokter Andina, hati Zack menjadi luluh. Diantara Zack dan Dokter Andina terjalin chemistry dan akhirnya Zack menyatakan cintanya kepada Dokter Andina dan mengajak Dokter Andina untuk menikah dengan Zack. Zack berhasil keluar dari keterpurukannya dan berhasil move on. Dalam hidup memang kita harus membantu orang lain tetapi tetap harus seimbang antara mementingkan urusan orang lain dengan urusan pribadi. Hubungan percintaan jarak jauh harus dilandasi sikap saling percaya satu sama lain, jangan sampai mencari pasangan lain hanya karena alasan kesepian. Jangan menggunakan cara yang melanggar aturan agama untuk mencapai keinginan. Tetap berusaha mencintai seseorang walaupun kita tidak tahu apakah orang itu akan mencintai kita. Apabila putus cinta, jangan mudah frustasi. Yakinlah diluar sana masih banyak orang yang peduli denganmu dan tulus mencintaimu. Dalam kisah ini, Zafira mempunyai dua anak asuh yaitu Gaye dan Dokter Andina. Gaye ibarat kacang lupa kulitnya, ketika kesuksesan diraihnya tertutuplah pintu hatinya. Dia menjadi lupa kalau banyak peran orang lain dalam pencapaian suksesnya itu. Dia menjadi lupa membalas budi orang-orang yang berjasa baginya. Dia menjadi lupa bahwa dia masih membutuhkan orang-orang baik. Sedangkan Dokter Andina seperti padi yang makin merekah makin menunduk. Begitu kesukesan diraih, semakin dia berhasil semakin besar rasa terima kasihnya kepada semua yang berjasa baginya. Semakin banyak kebahagiaan yang dia raih walau harus bersabar.
