Joaquim Moreira de Lemos dalam sambutan lisannya menjelaskan mengenai pandangan keliru yang sering dia temui selama dua tahun menjabat duta besar di Indonesia. “Saya kadang ditanya mengenai kolonialisasi Portugis di Indonesia, padahal itu tidak pernah terjadi. Portugis datang ke Indonesia tahun 1511 untuk transaksi rempah yang waktu itu merupakan komoditi sangat bernilai,” jelasnya dengan bersemangat.
