Film ini, seperti juga dalam bukunya berkisah tentang perjuangan siswa-siswa Indonesia untuk merebut juara pada olimpiade fisika tingkat international. Di filmnya, alur cerita lebih kepada perjuangan salah satu siswa dari pulau Madura. Arif, tokoh utama pada film ini adalah siswa SMP yang berasal dari keluarga tidak mampu.
