Dalam rangka mendukung perkembangan Teknologi Bangunan Lepas Pantai, mahasiswa Teknik Kelautan Universitas Hasanuddin harus memiliki berbagai kompetensi untuk mendukung berbagai ilmu yang dipelajari di kelas, seperti kemampuan mengaplikasikan ilmu pada dunia industri, kemampuan bekerja dalam tim, pemahaman tentang lingkungan kerja di industri, serta kemampuan untuk menganalisis dan menyelesaikan masalah di bidang industri. Untuk mencapai hal tersebut, institusi akademik perlu bekerja sama dengan industri melalui program kerja praktek bagi mahasiswa. Program kerja praktek yang dilaksanakan di PT Chevron Indonesia Company diharapkan dapat menjadi pelengkap proses belajar di Universitas Hasanuddin, terutama pada departemen Teknik Kelautan.
