Kelebihan gizi yang menyebabkan obesitas dapat terjadi pada anak. Obesitas disebabkan oleh ketidakseimbangan antara jumlah energi yang masuk dengan yang dibutuhkan oleh tubuh untuk berbagai fungsi biologis seperti pertumbuhan fisik, perkembangan, aktivitas, pemeliharaan kesehatan. Anak usia delapan tahun yang kegemukan atau obesitas, menunjukkan sejumlah tanda atau gejala terkait faktor risiko penyakit jantung saat mereka mencapai usia remaja (15 tahun). Salah satu penyebab obesitas adalah pengaruh gaya hidup yang tidak sehat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui prevalensi obesitas pada anak usia 5-18 tahun dan metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah dengan analisis data pada Hasil Riskesdas 2013. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah anak Indonesia usia 5-18 tahun. Dari hasil analisis data penelitian Pevalensi gemuk pada anak umur 5-12 tahun yaitu 18,8 persen, terdiri dari gemuk 10,8 persen dan sangat gemuk (obesitas) 8,8 persen. Prevalensi gemuk pada remaja umur 13-15 tahun di Indonesia sebesar 10.8 persen, terdiri dari 8,3 persen gemuk dan 2,5 persen sangat gemuk (obesitas). Prevalensi gemuk pada remaja umur 16–18 tahun sebanyak 7,3 persen yang terdiri dari 5,7 persen gemuk dan 1,6 persen obesitas. Prevalensi gemuk anak usia 5-18 tahun naik dari 1,4 persen (2007) menjadi 7,3 persen (2013). Factor yang menyebabkan obesitas antara lain factor genetic (keturunan), tingkat perekonomian orang tua yang rendah, pola makan berlebih, kecenderungan anak bermain game dan internet, dan budaya makan cepat saji.

The prevalence of obese in teenagers aged 13-15 years old in Indonesia amounted to 10.8 percent, consisting of 8.3 percent fat and 2.5 percent very overweight (obese). The prevalence of obese in teenagers aged 16 – 18 years old as much as 7.3 percent consisting of 5.7 per cent fat and 1.6 percent obese. The prevalence of obese children aged 5-18 years old increased from 1.4 percent (2007) to 7.3 per cent (2013). The factors that cause obesity, among other genetic factor (descendant), the level of the economy low parents, excess eating patterns, the tendency of children playing games and the internet, and the culture of eating fast food.
