Nilai seleksi akademik merupakan akumulasi dari nilai-nilai yang diperoleh melalui masing-masing penilaian tersebut dengan pembobotan tertentu. Tujuan, kriteria, mekanisme seleksi, instrumen penilaian, dan tim penilaian diuraikan secara rinci sebagai berikut :

2. Penguasaan awal terhadap kompetensi kepala sekolah/madrasah yang meliputi dimensi : kepribadian, manajerial, kewirausahaan, supervisi, dan sosial.
3. Pengalaman di bidang manajemen dan kepemimpinan sekolah/madrasah yang ditunjukkan dengan portofolio, yang meliputi:
a. Penilaian atasan yang diwujudkan dalam rekomendasi yang dibuat oleh kepala sekolah dan pengawas dimana guru yang bersangkutan bertugas;
b. Pengalaman mengikuti pendidikan dan pelatihan di bidang manajemen dan kepemimpinan;
c. Pengalaman keterlibatan dalam organisasi di bidang kependidikan;
d. Pengalaman keterlibatan dalam organisasi sosial kemasyarakatan;
e. Prestasi-prestasi profesional yang relevan dengan bidang kependidikan;
f. Tingkat pendidikan (khusus bagi peserta yang telah menyelesaikan pendidikan pada strata yang lebih tinggi dari sarjana S1)
4. Kualitas visi misi kepemimpinan serta kemampuan mengidentifikasi dan memecahkan masalah yang terkait dengan isu-isu aktual di bidang pendidikan. Kualitas ini dinilai dari kemampuan peserta dalam mengkomunikasikan hal- hal tersebut secara tertulis dalam bentuk makalah dan secara lisan melalui presentasi dihadapan penilai.

c. Penulisan makalah dan presentasi bertujuan untuk menguji kualitas gagasan, visi, misi dan wawasan calon kasek terkait dengan isu-isu terkini di bidang pendidikan, serta untuk menilai ketrampilan berkomunikasi secara tertulis dan secara lisan. Makalah ditulis tangan dan dilaksanakan dibawah pengawasan panitia seleksi calon kepala sekolah/madrasah (makalah tidak dibuat di rumah). Tema makalah ditetapkan oleh panitia seleksi yang sesuai dengan ketentuan sebagaimana tata cara dan kaidah penulisan karya ilmiah.
Hasil penilaian akademik merupakan nilai akumulasi dari semua penilaian tersebut dengan pembobotan sebagaimana ditunjukkan pada tabel.
