Entah kapan mulainya, korupsi semakin menggerogoti bangsa ini. Korupsi itu layaknya penyakit kanker yang jika terus dibiarkan maka penyakitnya akan menyebar keseluruh tubuh, yang bila didiamkan terus, maka menyebabkan kematian bagi penderitanya. Korupsi terjadi di kepolisian, pengadilan dimana hakim, Jaksa penuntut umum, pengacara membuat kesepakatan untuk melakukan korupsi secara berjama’ah. Tindakan untuk menghilangkan korupsi masih lemah. Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi (KPK) yang merupakan lembaga bentukan pemerintah dengan harapan akan adanya penanganan pemberantasan korupsi di tanah air yang lebih baik. Tapi sampai detik ini harapan itu hanya tinggal harapan. Bagaimana tidak, sampai hari ini kita melihat minimnya upaya untuk membangun sistem antikorupsi dan tenggelam oleh euphoria penindakan yang didramatisir kuat, luar biasa oleh KPK. Masyarakat disuguhi tontonan drama penindakan pemberantasan korupsi yang tidak habis-habisnya, yang justru tidak memperkuat pembangunan sistem nasional. Padahal ongkos pemberantasan korupsi selama ini sangat tidak sebanding dengan pengorbanan dan kesabaran bangsa ini.
Fenomena ini patut di perhatikan dan diwaspadai secara serius karena dampak dari tindakan korupsi tidak hanya sekedar merugikan keuangan Negara namun lebih dari itu, menciptakan kemiskinan, menciptakan pengangguran dan memicu tindakan kriminalitas, bahkan mengubur masa depan bangsa. Hal yang jelas adalah bahwa korupsi yang terjadi dalam level manapun merupakan hal yang dapat menghancurkan nilai-nilai etika serta norma sosial dan nilai agama, sehingga dapat menjadi prilaku yang mengkorupsi budaya, dan ketika secara bertahap atau sekaligus diterima oleh masyarakat sebagai sesuatu yang wajar, maka disitu telah terjadi korupsi budaya yang kemudian membentuk budaya korupsi.
Lihat saja, kita punya begitu banyak istilah: uang pelicin, uang rokok, uang transport, setoran, jabatan basah, salam tempel, cara damai, amplop yang kesemuanya adalah eufimisme dari perilaku korup yang biasa dilakukan sehari-hari.

Korupsi tidak boleh di lindungi sebab, semakin dilindungi, semakin menjadi budaya permanen yang abadi kekuatanya. Sehingga kelak nanti, kita tak harus lagi mengutip kalimat Bung Hatta yang mengatakan "korupsi sudah menjadi budaya kita".
