Sejak permulaan abad ke-20 bangsa-bangsa dikawasan Afrika mulai bangkit menentang kekuasaan bangsa-bangsa Eropa.Perjuangan yang dilakukan oleh bangsa-bangsa di Afrika itu bertujuan untuk mencapai kemerdekaannya agar terbebas dari segala bentuk kekuasaan bangsa asing.Semangat perjuangan bangsa Afrika ini semakin meningkat setelah kemenangan pasukan Jepang terhadap Rusia tahun 1905.Akibat kemenangan itu,dimulailah proses dekolonisasi di kawasan Afrka. Munculnya proses dekolonisasi dikawasan Afrika diawali oleh bangkitnya rasa nasionalisme dari bangsa-bangsa dikawasan Afrika.
Kemudian proses dekolonisasi dilanjutkan dengan munculnya negara-negara baru dikawasan Afrika. Melalui berbagai bentuk perjuangan yang dilakukan oleh bangsa-bangsa di kawasan Afrika berhasil membebaskan dirinya dari kaum penjajah, serta kemudian berhasil mendirikan negara-negara baru yang terbebas dari segala bentuk ikatan dari kekuasaan asing.
