Ketika Syarif Hidayatullah dinobatkan menjadi raja di Keraton Pakungwati Cirebon sebagai Sunan di Gunung Jati sekitar tahun 1482M, beliau memiliki bhayangkari Keraton Pakungwati yang sangat tangguh dipimpin oleh Pangeran Carbon (putranya Mbah Kuwu Cakrabuana) atau disebut Senopati Yudalaga (Panglima Perang Keraton Cirebon). Salah satu bawahan Pangeran Carbon yang patuh, setia dan pemberani adalah Ayung Brata ("a"= aku, "nyung" = selalu siap siaga, "brata" = perang) yang selalu berada di barisan terdepan ketika terjadi kerusuhan, peperangan dan keributan, karena keberanainya itulah Anyung Brata selalu disayang oleh Pangeran Carbon sebagai panglima perang. Untuk menambah keprawiraan dan pengetahuan keagamaannya, Pangeran Carbon dan Anyung Brata berguru ilmu kepada seorang wali yang dianggap mumpuni dalam kema'rifatan yakni Syekh Lemah abang/Syekh Siti Jenar/ Syekh Jabal Rantah. Namun kemudian, Dewan Wali menganggap ajaran Syekh Lemah abang menyimpang karena tidak sesuai dengan syariat Islam, dan dianggap mengganggu proses penyebaran syariat Islam. Untuk menghindari pertumpahan darah antara pasukan Demak dan Cirebon, sesepuh Cirebon, Mbah Kuwu Cirebon dan para pelaksana hukum serta para senopati Keraton Cirebon yaitu Pangeran Kejaksan, Pangeran Panjunan, Ki Ageng Bungko dan Pangeran Carbon, menyarankan agar yang diadili adalah Syekh Lemahabang saja sebagai Mahaguru yang harus mempertanggungjawabkannya. Usulan itu disepakati kemudian diadakan sidang tuntutan/ gugatan para wali kepada Syekh Lemah abang yang digelar di Masjid Agung Sang Ciptarasa Cirebon. Untuk menenangkan diri dan menahan diri jangan sampai terjadi perang saudara (perang kadang ibur batur), Anyung Brata membawa istri tercintanya Nyi Mas Kejaksan, puterinya, dan abdinya yang setia yaitu Ki Gawul (Ki Tambak) dan Ki Santani (Ki Bogo), yang berasal dari daerah Pasundan. Mereka meninggalkan Keraton Pakungwati ke arah barat daya Wilayah Keraton Pakungwati Cirebon di perbatasan wilayah Darma Ayu (Indramayu). Anyung Brata dan pengikutnya menyamar seperti masyarakat biasa lalu membuka hutan untuk dijadikan Pedukuhahan. Untuk mengatasi kebutuhan akan perairan, dibuatlah sumur pertama yang diberi nama Satana (asat tapi ana – sedikit tapi ada). Karena air dari sumur tersebut terasa asin seperti air laut, Anyung Brata mencari lokasi/tanah yang tepat ke arah tenggara. Dan dibukalah sumur yang kedua, yang mengeluarkan air deras, rasanya tawar dan diberi nama Sumuran. Tanah hasil bukaan hutan tersebut sangat subur, cocok untuk pertanian dan palawija. Anyung Brata membabat hutan untuk dijadikan sawah dan diberi nama Blok Sri Berkah ("sri" = padi, "berkah" diharapkan mendapat berokah) atau dinamai Si Berkat. Sejarah yang sangat berkaitan dengan Ujunggebang adalah ketika seorang putri dari wilayah Darma Ayu (Indramayu) yang bernama Nyi Mas Pandansari atau disebut juga Nyi Mas Junti melarikan diri dari kejaran seorang saudagar kaya dari negeri Cina yang hendak meminangnya yang bernama Sam Po Kong/ Sam Po Toa Lang atau disebut Dampo Awang dan ditolong oleh Seorang wali bernama Syekh Benthong. Singkat Cerita, setelah melalui wilayah – wilayah yang dikemudian hari diberi nama Desa Junti Kedokan, Junti Kebon, Juntiwedhen dan Juntinyungat, singgahlah Nyi Mas Pandansari di sebuah sumur di Desa Cadangpinggan (wilayah Kertasemaya, Indramayu untuk sekedar melepas haus (selanjutnya sumur tersebut dikenal dengan nama Sumur Pandansari). Kemudian Syekh Benthong dan Nyi Mas Junti berjalan kaki memasuki wilayah kekuasaan Keraton Cirebon, bertemu dengan Anyung Brata yang sedang menggarap sawah Sri Berkah/Si Brekat. Setelah berkenalan Syekh Benthong menitipkan Nyi Mas Pandansari/Nyi Mas Junti kepada Anyung Brata dan menceriterakan perihal Nyi Mas Junti. Untuk mengecoh Dampo Awang yang masih mengejarnya, Syekh Benthong menghambat perjalanan dengan cara memperdaya pandangan Dampo Awang di Hutan/ Alas Walisurat. Selanjutnya keselamatan Nyi Mas Pandansari/Nyi Mas Junti diserahkan kepada Anyung Brata. Kemudian Syekh Benthong pun melanjutkan perjalanan. Karena khawatir keberadaan Nyi Mas Junti diketahui oleh Dampo Awang, maka Anyung Brata menyembunyikan Ny Mas Junti di puncak pohon Gebang (Corypha umbraculifera, sejenis palma tinggi besar dari daerah dataran rendah) yang daunnya lebat menyerupai kipas sehingga tidak terlihat. Peristiwa tersebut diabadikan dengan memberikan nama pedukuhan tersebut dengan nama Pedukuhan Ujunggebang ("ujung" = pucuk, "gebang" = pohon Gebang). Kini Pedukuhan Ujunggebang menjadi Desa Ujunggebang.
