Suatu organisasi dapat juga didekati sebagai suatu objek studi. Sebagian orang menganggap organisasi sebagai suatu objek yang menyenangkan dan menarik. Tujuan utama mereka adalah untuk memahami oraganisasi dengan mendeskripsikan komunikasi organisasinya , memahami kehidupan organisasi , dan menemukan bagaimana kehidupan terwujud lewat komunikasi. Tekanannya adalah pada bagaimana suatu organisasi dikontruksi dan dipelihara lewat proses komunikasi . Pendekatan ini menekankan apa yang sebenernya terjadi dalam organisasi dan memberikan suatu penjelaan yang jarang ditemukan dalam pendekatan-pendekatan lain. Komunikasi organisasi lebih daripada sekedar apa yang dilakukan orang-orang. Komunikasi organisasi adalah suatu disiplin studi yang dapat mengambil sejumlah arah yang sah dan bermanfaat. Meskipun kita mengakui nilai keberadaan teoretisi ,praktisi dan pengkritik dalam suatu buku pengantar semua kebutuhan tidak dapat dibahas secara merata.
