Allah masih menyelidiki. Yeremia 5:1-17 Allah masih menyelidiki. Allah memerintahkan Yeremia memeriksa seluruh rakyat Yehuda apakah ada orang-orang yang melakukan keadilan dan kebenaran (1). Yeremia tidak dapat menemukan seorang pun (2-3). Bagaimana dengan kalangan pembesar yang tentunya mengenal jalan dan hukum Tuhan (4-5)? Jawabannya tetap sama yaitu tidak ada seorang pembesar pun yang melakukan apa yang benar. Integritas mereka telah rusak (1). Semua telah terjerumus ke dalam dosa seksual yang dalam dan menghancurkan kehidupan rumah tangga serta masyarakat (7-8). Karena itu bangsa Yehuda tidak mungkin luput atau lari dari hukuman Allah. Mereka harus mempertanggungjawabkan segala perbuatan mereka di hadapan Allah (9-17). Inilah isu utama yang diketengahkan Yeremia dalam perikop ini. Dalam zaman modern sekarang ini, apakah perintah Allah kepada Yeremia ini masih bermakna? Apakah Allah masih memeriksa masyarakat zaman sekarang seperti yang pernah Ia lakukan terhadap bangsa Yehuda? Apakah hubungan bangsa Yehuda dengan Allah sebagai umat pilihan-Nya dapat disamakan dengan hubungan Allah dan bangsa Indonesia misalnya? Jawaban untuk ketiga pertanyaan di atas adalah ya. Sebab yang menjadi tekanan utama dalam masalah pertanggungjawaban di sini bukanlah masalah penyembahan berhala ataupun tata ibadah yang salah, melainkanmasalah moralitas pribadi dan masyarakat.Bukankah setiap manusia mempunyai hati nurani yang akan menuntunnya melakukan yang baik atau menuduhnya bila melakukan tindakan yang menyimpang dari hati nuraninya (Rm. 2 :15-16)? Karena itu setiap manusia tidak dapat lari atau menghindar dari pertanggungjawaban moralitas dihadapan Allah. Renungkan: Siapa pun kita, atau apa pun kedudukan kita, Allah menuntut pertanggungjawaban moral dari setiap kita, tanpa kecuali. Therefore the people of Judah is unlikely to escape or flee from the punishment of God. They have to account for their deeds in the sight of God (9-17). This is the main issue in this passage Jeremiah of Surat. In today's modern age, whether or not the command of God to Jeremiah is still meaningful? Does God still examine society today as he ever did to the nation of Judah? What is the relationship of Judah by God as his chosen ones can be likened to the relationship of God and the nation of Indonesia for example? The answer to the third question above is Yes.
