Pengertian Pendidikan oleh Bapak Ki Hajar Dewantara, Bapak Pendidikan Indonesia, bahwa pendidikan adalah tuntutan di dalam hidup tumbuhnya anak-anak, adapun maksudnya, pendidikan bertujuan dalam menuntun (bukan menentukan) segala kekuatan kodrat (hendak Tuhan) yang ada pada anak-anak tersebut, agar kelak nantinya mereka sebagai manusia dan sebagai anggota masyarakat dapat meraih keselamatan dan kebahagiaan yang setinggi-tingginya.
Pengertian pendidikan oleh Plato dan para ahli lainnya kemudian diadopsi kedalam UU SISDIKNAS No.20 Tahun 2003. Pada aturan ini, menjelaskan bahwa pengertian pendidikan adalah proses pembelajaran agar peserta didik secara aktif terencana untuk mewujudkan suasana belajar dan proses pembelajaran agar peserta didik secara aktif mengembangkan potensi dirinya untuk memiliki kekuatan spiritual keagamaan, pengendalian diri, kepribadian, kecerdasan, akhlak mulia, serta keterampilan yang diperlukan dirinya, masyarakat, bangsa dan negara.
Bahasa Arab adalah bahasa Agama Islam dan bahasa Al-Qur’an, seseorang tidak akan dapat memahami kitab dan sunnah dengan pemahaman yang benar dan selamat (dari penyelewengan) kecuali dengan bahasa Arab. Menyepelekan dan menggampangkan Bahasa Arab akan mengakibatkan lemah dalam memahami agama serta jahil (bodoh) terhadap permasalahan agama.Pendidikan bahasa Arab sangat dibutuhkan dewasa ini di Indonesia. mengingat sedikitnya lembaga pedidikan yang mengajarkan bahasa Arab dibandingkan dengan bahasa asing lainnya di negri yang mayoritas penduduknya muslim dan populasi muslim terbesar di dunia saat ini.Tidak perlu diragukan lagi, memang sepantasnya seorang muslim mencintai bahasa Arab dan berusaha menguasainya. Allah telah menjadikan bahasa Arab sebagai bahasa Al-Qur’an karena bahasa Arab adalah bahasa yang terbaik yang pernah ada sebagaimana firman Allah:
إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ
“Sesungguhnya Kami menurunkannya berupa Al Quran dengan berbahasa Arab, agar kamu memahaminya.”
Secara historis, pembelajaran bahasa Arab di Indonesia dimulai sejak masuknya agama Islam ke tanah air. Pembelajaran dimulai dari bahasa Arab sebagai bahasa Ibadah, dimana umat Islam melakukan ibadah dengan bacaan-bacaan yang berbahasa Arab, seperti bacaan dalam sholat, do’a-do’a, dan membaca Al-Qur’an. Maka pem¬belajaran bahasa Arab dimulai dengan pembelajaran membaca Al-Qur’an. Dari sini kemudian berkembang pada pembelajaran bahasa Arab untuk memahami teks-teks keagamaan dan kemudian bahasa sebagai media komunikasi yang diajarkan di berbagai lembaga pendidikan dari yang klasik hingga modern.
