Sejarah Masjid Dermayu dan 25 Makam Keramat

Meski masjid ini telah berganti nama menjadi Masjid Baiturrahmah, namun warga masih menyebutnya Masjid Dermayu. Dermayu berasal dari nama seorang pendekar wanita bernama Endang Darma, yang tidak ada tandingannya. Bahkan, ia mampu mengalahkan sejumlah pangeran yang berniat mempersuntingnya.

Gelar Endang Darma diberikan seorang petinggi daerah setempat, yaitu Rd. Bagus Wiralodra, seorang pejabat pemerintah Indramayu jaman doeloe. Endang Darma sendiri, menurut sejarah, diyakini sebagai nama seorang pejuang atau pahlawan yang melahirkan nama Indramayu. Pemberian nama masjid tersebut terjadi pada Jumat Kliwon tanggal 1 Muharam 934 Hijriah atau tahun 1449, bertepatan dengan 7 Oktober 1527.

Sejak tahun 1870, pusat Pemerintah Kabupaten Indramayu yang semula terletak di Desa Dermayu, pindah ke sebelah timur Cimanuk. Hingga saat ini Masjid Baiturrahmah tetap dikunjungi umat Islam.

Akhirnya, 25 punggawa itu menyerang Endang Darma. Seperti nasib gurunya, mereka kalah dan tewas di tangan Endang Darma. Mayat 25 anak buah Pangeran Guru itu lalu dikuburkan di sisi-sisi Masjid Baiturrahmah.
