Jember Fashion Carnaval 2014 akan berbeda dari tahun-tahun sebelumnya. Jika sebelumnya karnaval fesyen jalanan terbesar di dunia itu hanya diselenggarakan satu hari, maka kini ada rangkaian acara yang mengiringi. Selama empat hari pada Agustus, Jember akan riuh dengan acara karnaval fesyen. Pembukaan atau exhibition akan digelar pada 20 Agustus 2014, dan diikuti keesokan harinya Kids Carnival di alun-alun. Art Wear Carnival akan digelar pada 22 Agustus dengan rute alun-alun hingga Jalan Gajah Mada. “Art Wear Carnival ini akan menampilkan kolaborasi talent (model) dalam 10 tema pakaian musim dingin dengan kawan-kawan klub VW nasional yang sedang berjambore di sini. Nantinya akan ada 20 VW unik yang tampil,” kata Budi Setiawan, Event Director JFC. Selanjutnya, 23 Agustus 2014, Kementerian Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif (Kemenparekraf) bekerjasama dengan Asosiasi Karnaval Indonesia (Akari) menggelar Wonderful Archipelago Carnival Indonsia (WACI). Karnaval ini diikuti peserta dari tujuh provinsi, yakni DKI Jakarta, Jawa Timur, Bali, Jawa Tengah, Bangka-Belitung, Kepulauan Riau, dan Kalimantan Timur. Rutenya sama dengan rute JFC yakni sepanjang 3,6 kilometer dari alun-alun hingga Gedung Olah Raga PKPSO di Jalan Gajah Mada. Setiap defile provinsi akan menampilkan tema 60-70 model yang mengenakan kostum sesuai dengan ciri khas tradisional masing-masing. Setiawan mengatakan, WACI berawal dari permintaan Kemenparekraf kepada JFC untuk memberikan pelatihan di tujuh provinsi. Dari sana terbentuklah Asosiasi Karnaval Indonesia yang diketuai Dynand Fariz, sang penggagas JFC. WACI adalah program kerja perdana organisasi baru tersebut. Sebenarnya DKI dan Batam mengajukan diri menjadi tuan rumah penyelenggaraan perdana WACI. Namun akhirnya pemerintah memilih Jember sebagai tuan rumah. “Pertimbangannya dari sisi filosofis dan historis. Jember ini pelopor modern carnival. Selain itu liputan media dan fotografer lebih banyak di sini,” kata Setiawan. WACI akan menjadi acara tahunan di Jember. Nantinya sebelum penyelenggaraan WACI di Jember, semua pemerintah provinsi yang menjadi anggota Akari akan menggelar karnaval fesyen di daerah masing-masing. Puncak acara adalah JFC pada 24 Agustus 2014 dengan tema besar Triangle yang dijabarkan dalam dynamic dan harmonic. “Triangle ini mengangkat segitiga manusia, alam, dan sang Maha Pencipta. Sementara dynamic dan harmonic adalah gambaran dari perbedaan dan keberagaman dalam kehidupan kita. Perbedaan seharusnya menjadi indah dalam keselarasan,” kata Setiawan. Ada sepuluh defile JFC, yakni Mahabarata sebagai defile pembuka. Berikutnya defile Tambora yang terinspirasi letusan Gunung Tambora ratusan tahun lalu, Borobudur yang terinspirasi candi termegah di dunia dan menjadi kebanggaan Indonesia, Flying Kite yang terinspirasi layang-layang, Stalagmite yang terinspirasi stalagmit di gua-gua yang gelap, Wild Deer yang terinspirasi keunikan rusa, Pine Forrest yang terinspirasi keindahan hutan pinus, Apache yang terinspirasi nama salah satu suku Indian yang sudah punah, Chemistry yang terinspirasi zat-zat campuran dan kimiawi, dan Phoenix yang terinspirasi burung legenda yang saat mati terbakar api dan dari abunya lahirlah burung Phoenix baru. Rata-rata defile akan diisi 35-40 orang model. Hanya defile Mahabarata yang diisi 160 orang karena menghadirkan JFC Marching Band. []
