Geisha is a traditional artist-entertainers in Japan. Another term for Geisha including "Geiko" and the "Maiko". The term "Geiko" and "Maiko" began to be used at the time of the Meiji Restoration. The term Geiko is another term for Geisha while Maiko is the designation for the novice Geisha. The term is only used in the area of Maiko Kyoto only. When first appeared, all Geisha are female, whereas when women began to take over the role of the Geisha, the terms had changed to Onna Geisha or "women artists". But now all of the Geisha is only allowed for women only.
