Segala puji dan syukur kehadirat Tuhan yang maha esa kita dipertemukan di tempat ini dengan keadaan sehat. Pada kesempatan yang baik ini saya akan membawakan sebuah pidato yang berjudul "perkembangan ekonomi di manado".

Perekonomian kota Manado khususnya terdiri dari sektor perdagangan, perhotelan dan restoran, sektor pengangkutan dan komunikasi serta sektor jasa. Pada tahun1996 peran ketiga sektor utama ini dalam pembentukan PDRB adalah sejumlah 68,74%. Dalam kurun waktu 5 tahun, peran ketiga sektor ini cenderung semakin dominan yang dilihat dari kontribusinya pada tahun 2000 yang meningkat menjadi 74,68%. Laju inflasikota Manado selama kurun waktu dua tahun terakhir (2000-2001) sangat berfluktuatif. Pada tahun 2000 sempat mengalami deflasisebanyak lima kali yaitu masing-masing pada bulan Januari sebesar min 0,25%, April –0,08%, Mei -0,13%, Agustus -0,85% dan Desember -0,16%. Sedangkan inflasi tertinggi terjadi pada bulan pada bulan Oktober yaitu sebesar 4,05%. Sehingga secara kumulatif inflasi yang terjadi di Manado sebesar 11,41%. Pada tahun 2001 terjadi deflasi sebanyak 3 kali, yaitu pada bulan Februari sebesar –0,56%, Agustus -0,23% dan Desember sebesar –0,26%. Sedangkan inflasi tertinggi pada tahun 2001 terjadi pada bulan Juli yaitu sebesar 2.83% dimana secara kumulatif inflasi pada tahun 2001 mencapai 13,30%.
