Kategori hasil belajar peserta didik kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol ditetapkan berdasarkan kriteria penentuan interval skor. Terlebih dahulu ditentukan rentang skor, dengan rumus:
Rentang Skor Kelas (r) = Skor maksimum – Skor minimum

Kemudian ditentukan jumlah kelas interval (k) yaitu 5. Ditentukan 5 jumlah kelas interval karena akan dipakai 5 kategori hasil belajar yaitu sangat tinggi, tinggi, sedang, rendah, dan sangat rendah.
Setelah itu ditentukan panjang kelas interval dengan rumus:
Panjang kelas Interval (p) = (Rentang Skor Kelas)/(jumlah kelas interval)
Pengecekan untuk memperoleh skor penentu dengan rumus:
p.k = (r+1) + X
keterangan:
p = panjang kelas interval
k = jumlah kelas interval
r = rentang skor kelas
X = skor penentu
