Georgia mendeskripsikan perang Agustus 2008 ini sebagai perlawanan terhadap invasi Rusia dan sama sekali bukan provokasi barat. Georgia sangat yakin sebelumnya bahwa Amerika akan membantu usaha Georgia melihat kedekatan kerjasama mereka sejak beberapa tahun terakhir. Namun ternyata Amerika tidak membantu Georgia secara terang-terangan seperti yang dilakukan Rusia.
