selama ini, penelitian-penelitian terkait pengembangan wilayah perbatasan masih sedikit, sedangkan kita ketahui bahwa indonesia merupakan negara kepulauan dimana perbatasan darat berbatasan dengan 3 negara, Wilayah perbatasan laut pada umumnya berupa pulau-pulau terluar yang jumlahnya 92 pulau dan termasuk pulau-pulau kecil dan tersiolasi. Sehingga masih perlu banyaknya penelitian-penelitian terkait pengembangan wilayah yang lebih intensif karena mempunyai kecenderungan rendahnya tingkat kesejahteraan penduduk dan permasalahan dengan negara tetangga.
