Kota Batu terletak 15 km sebelah barat Kota Malang. Wilayah kota ini berada di ketinggian 1.200 meter dari permukaan laut dengan suhu udara rata-rata 15-19 derajat Celsius.

Sejak abad ke-10, wilayah Batu dan sekitarnya telah dikenal sebagai tempat peristirahatan bagi kalangan keluarga kerajaan, karena wilayah adalah daerah pegunungan dengan kesejukan udara yang nyaman.
