Kegiatan ekonomi adalah sebahagian daripada ruang lingkup Islam yang syumul. Islam bertujuan untuk menegakkan keadilan, oleh itu salah satu asas utama sistem ekonomi Islam juga untuk menegakkan keadilan. Keadilan sosial yang hendak ditegakkan oleh sistem Islam bersih daripada sebarang slogan yang kosong dan bebas daripada kekeliruan. Ini kerana keadalan dalam Islam mempunyai asasnya yang tersendiri, iaitu di atas dasar taqwa dan makruf.
