LATAR BELAKANG

Perkembangan, Politik, Ekonomi, Teknologi dan Sosial Budaya serta pertumbuhan penduduk yang begitu cepat, telah mempengaruhi tatanan system nilai budaya suatu bangsa. Secara material arus pertumbuhan dan perkembangan tersebut berjalan dengan mulus dan menjadi kebanggaan suatu negara. Kenyataan yang sebenarnya telah terjadi kesenjangan sosial yang sangat menyolok.

Sebagaimana kita ketahui dampak sosial yang terjadi di Indonesia setelah krisis moneter pada tahun 1998, masih menjadi masalah dinegeri ini sampai saat ini, meningkatnya jumlah anak-anak putus sekolah dan tingkat pengagngguran belum terselesaikan belum lagi kondisi krisis multidimensi membuat bangsa ini sepertinya belum mampu melepaskan diri dari kemiskinan masih ada masyarakat tidur dikaki lima, tinggal dikolong jembatan, banyak anak terlantar sangat memprihatinkan dan perlu mendapat perhatian dari berbagai pihak.
Mereka sangat rentan permasalahan sosial, perlu perlindungan untuk menyelamatkannya.

Sebelumnya juga daerah nias dikenal sebagai salah satu daerah tertinggal dinegeri ini, namun namun setelah terjadinya bencana banjir bandang, 31 Juli 2001, dan bencana gempa bumi dahsyat tanggal 28 Maret 2005 yang berkekuatan 8,7 skala richter, “ ibarat pepatah mengatakan sudah jatuh tertipah tangga”,apa lagi paska bencana gempa bumi sejumlah media massa menyuguhkan pemberitaan yang membuat masyarakat Nias dilanda rasa ketakutan dan kekuatiran.
Pada tanggal 17 Desember 2005 merupakan kenangan yang tak terlupakan, kami sekeluarga berkunjung Dusun Hilizamurugo yang merupakan desa terisolir di Nias Selatan, saat itu ditemui 11 anak terlantar, korban bencana gempa, dan layak diperhatikan.

Ke 11 anak tersebut harus menerima kenyataan menghadapi dan menjalani kehidupan tanpa kasih sayang dan bimbingan sang ayah, akibat bencana gempa bumi Nias, kondisi ini membuat saya dan sekeluarga terharu dan prihatin, akhirnya kami pulang bersama dengan membawa ke- 11 anak tersebut dan tiba di Medan, 13 Januari 2006.
Meski telah sampai di Medan kesedihan dan kesepian tetap menjadi bagian yang tidak bisa mereka hindari.

Dengan segala keterbatasan yang ada kami mengontrak sebuah kamar tempat tinggal di Jalan Kapten Muslim Gang Sepakat Ujung yang harga sewa per bulan Rp 180.000,- Kapasitas kamar tidak memungkinkan untuk anak-anak terpaksa minta izin kepada pemilik rumah untuk tidur di ruang tamu seraya menunggu berkat dengan harapan dapat mengontrak rumah sebagai tempat tinggal.

Tanpa diduga para tetangga yang tinggal disekitar rumah yang kami kontrak menaruh perhatian dan menunjukkan simpatinya atas apa yang kami lakukan. Mereka dengan suka rela memberikan sumbangsihnya kepada anak-anak yatim yang kami asuh. Berbagai sumbangan tulus berbentuk materi dan non materi kami terima dari lembaga, organisasi, ,secara pribadi, keluarga dan berbagai gereja yang dikunjungi anak-anak panti asuhan dan sebaliknya datang ke rumah panti dengan rasa terimakasih dan keharuan yang mendalam.

Bantuan para tetangga, kebutuhan anak-anak yatim yang makin meningkat, dan adanya permintaan dari anak-anak yatim, terlantar, miskin untuk diasuh dalam asuhan kami , yang pada akhirnya menginspirasi kami tergerak untuk membentuk satu lembaga formal yang lebih baik lagi dalam upaya memberikan asuhan bagi anak-anak yang kurang beruntung. Lahirlah kemudian sebuah yayasan sosial yang bertujuan menampung dan mengasuh anak yatim, terlantar dan miskin.

Hari ini berkat rahmat dan karunia dan dukungan serta kontribusi para dermawan, pada tanggal 19 Januari 2006 Yayasan Sahabat Anak Indonesia secara yuridis formal menjadi sebuah institusi sosial yang legal dan dapat memberikan pelayanan dan pengasuhan untuk anak-anak yatim piatu, miskin agar mereka tidak kehilangan kawalan dalam meraih masa depan yang lebih baik dan cemerlang, rentang waktu sejak lahirnya Panti Asuhan Yayasan Sahabat Anak Indonesia sampai hari ini banyak mengalami suka dan duka silih berganti.
Semua itu telah memberikan sebuah pengalaman dan pembelajaran yang sangat berharga guna untuk dikenang dalam memperbaiki manajemen Yayasan Sahabat Anak Indonesia secara terus menerus kearah yang lebih baik.
Kami akan selalu berupaya menjadi lembaga sosial yang dinamis karena kami sadar akan segala bantuan dan dukungan dari para dermawan adalah amanah yang tidak ringan, harus dipertanggungjawabkan, bantuan doa dan dukungan dari berbagai pihak terus kami nantikan bersama, untuk mewujudkan cita-cita mereka.

Keberadaan panti Asuhan Sahabat Anak Indonesia berada disekitar perbatasan Medan dan Deli Serdang, jika Bapak/Ibu berkehendak dan rindu ketempat kami boleh melalui Pajak Kampung Lalang Lampu merah dan menyisir jalan disepanjang jalan kelambir lima, jalan kelambir lima juga terbagi dua ada Jalan Kelambir Lima Medan dan ada juga kelambir lima Desa Kelambir Lima Kebun Kec. Atau yang lebih gampang terlihat Swalayan Indomaret dan Stasiun Angkutan Kota MRX. Selanjutnya masuk ke jalan perjuangan kurang lebih 500 meter kemudian terlihat kubura berpagar/tembok hijau dipersimpangan Gamenia. Bapak/Ibu belok kiri sekitar 700 meter sebelah kanan terlihat Rumah Yatim Panti Asuhan Sahabat Anak Indonesia.

Kegiatan Keagamaan
Anak-anak panti Asuhan Sahabat Anak Indonesia selama melakukan ibadah syukur pada saat pagi hari dan malam hari, digalakkan pembacaan firman Tuhan, dan latihan-latihan bernyanyi, boleh dikatakan beribadah, menghormati orang tua, hingga peduli dan Membantu sesama menjadi nilai hidup yang tidak dapat dipisahkan, pengasuh khusus untuk remaja mereka selalu diingatkan dan diajarkan agar tidak terpengaruh oleh pergaulan bebas yang rawan terjadi dilingkungan panti.
Olahraga :
Mengisi kesibukan dan berpikiran positif adalah salah satu cara dengan melakukan kegiatan olah raga, namun masih banyak kendala karena fasilitas permainan adapun jenis permaianan yang dimungkinkan untuk area panti asuhan sahabat anak Indonesia antara lain, Bola Basket
Bermain Badminton, Tennis Meja, Senam

Kebersihan :
Dalam hal kebersihan anak-anak panti terus diajari baik dalam kebersihan rumah, halaman, dapur, kamar mandi, tempat tidur da sebagainya agar terhindar dari penyakit.

Ketrampilan
Mereka diajarkan membuat ketrampilan terbuat dari manik-manik dan membuat gelang, kalung, gantungan kunci, mainan HP,dari manik- man. Membuat hadiah ulang tahun terbuat dari handuk, namun ini juga tidal tercapai dengan baik karena kurangnya bahan material.

Tidaklah Mudah
Tinggal bersama puluhan anak dari keluarga dan latar belakang yang berbeda-beda dan tanpa kehadiran orang tua bukanlah perkara mudah. Semuanya telah diatur dan dibatasi dip anti asuhan.Misalnya saja, makan, tidur, belajar apa lagi saat ini mereka tidur diruang tamu mau tidak mau setiap anak harus mandiri meskipun tidak lazimnya seperti orang dewasa dan tidak bisa bertindak sesuka hati.

Masalah Pendidikan:
Daya juang sangat kurang belum memahami bahwa apa yang dilakukannya dari sekarang merupakan bagian dari masa depannya.
Kurangnya fasilitas belajar seperti kursi, meja dan Lemari buku, sangat mempengaruhi lancarnya kegiatan belajar, sampai hari ini belum ada donatur tetap khusus yang berkenan membantu biaya pendidikan.

Masalah Etika:
Berinteraksi dengan teman-teman diluar panti saat berada disekolah menjadi masalah tersendiri bagi mereka yang berusia remaja, sepertinya susah untuk menghabiskan waktu satu minggu, belum lagi merasa minder ketika teman-teman sekolahnya uan
