Variabel motivasi berprestasi diukur dengan menggunakan 6 indikator, diantaranya yaitu: (1) bertanggung jawab, (2) memiliki tujuan, (3) memiliki harapan, (4) bekerja keras, (5) tidak memikirkan kegagalan, dan (6) selalu berusaha. Berdasarkan hasil pengolahan data, nilai CR pada hipotesis ini sebesar 3,781 dengan nilai P 0,05. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa motivasi berprestasi secara langsung berpengaruh positif terhadap eksplorasi karir. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa Ha1 yang menyatakan motivasi berprestasi berpengaruh terhadap eksplorasi karir diterima.
Menurut McClelland dan Atkinson (1953:78) bahwa ”Achiement motivation should be characterzed by high hopes of success rather than by fear of failure”, artinya motivasi berprestasi merupakan ciri seorang yang mempunyai harapan tinggi untuk mencapai keberhasilan daripada ketakutan kegagalan. Ketika seseorang memiliki motivasi berprestasi yang tinggi orang tersebut akan merencanakan secara matang hal – hal yang berkaitan dengan masa depannya serta berfikir dan bertindak untuk menggapai karir di masa depannya dengan berorientasi meraih prestasi setinggi – tingginya. Diterimanya hipotesis pertama diperkuat dengan hal – hal yang mempengaruhi pengambilan keputusan karir sesuai dengan yang diungkapkan oleh Super (dalam Santrock 2003), bahwa konsep diri individu memainkan peran pokok dalam keputusan karir. Artinya pemahaman individu mengenai dirinya adalah hal yang penting dalam keputusan karir.

Ha2 Pengaruh Peran Orang Tua terhadap Eksplorasi Karir
Hipotesis yang kedua pada penelitian ini adalah peran orang tua terhadap eksplorasi karir. Variabel peran orang tua diukur dengan menggunakan 5 indikator, diantaranya yaitu: (1) mencintai dan dicintai, (2) perlindungan, (3) bimbingan, (4) pengakuan, dan (5) kedisiplinan. Berdasarkan hasil pengolahan data, nilai CR pada hipotesis ini adalah sebesar 3,731 dengan nilai P 0,05. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa peran orang tua secara langsung berpengaruh positif terhadap eksplorasi karir. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa Ha2 yang menyatakan peran orang tua berpengaruh terhadap eksplorasi karir diterima.
Menurut Aly (1999:87) orang tua adalah orang dewasa pertama yang memikul tanggung jawab pendidikan, sebab secara alami anak pada masa awal kehidupannya berada ditengah – tengah ibu dan ayahnya, serta dari merekalah anak mulai mengenal pendidikan. Orang tua memberikan bimbingan, mengawasi waktu belajar anak dan menyediakan cukup waktu untuk mengadakan percakapan dan dialog serta menciptakan suasana santai dan nyaman sehingga anak dapat belajar dengan tenang. Selanjutnya, dalam diri orang tua secara otomatis memiliki perasaan mengasihi dan menyayangi terhadap anak. Jelas bahwa orang tua secara fitrah mencintai anak, menjalar dalam perasaan jiwa, emosi untuk memelihara, mengasihi, menyayangi dan memperhatikan anaknya.
Diterimanya hipotesis kedua ini juga diperkuat dengan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan oleh Esters dan Bowen (2005:224-228), diantaranya adalah (1) orang tua (ibu dan ayah) merupakan faktor pertama yang berpengaruh terhadap pilihan karir anak mereka, (2) pekerjaan orang tua (ibu dan ayah) berhubungan secara signifikan dengan pilihan karir anak mereka. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan penguatan peran aspirasi orang tua terhadap perilaku eksplorasi karir. Selanjutnya penelitian yang dilakukan oleh Witko (2005:178-180) menunjukkan bahwa orang atau individu yang membantu dalam perencanaan karir berturut – turut dari ranking tertinggi adalah orang tua, tokoh karir, teman, konselor sekolah, guru, orang yang dipercaya, wali kelas dan lainnya.
