In closing, it is important to note that although there are severaldifferent conceptualizations of basic needs satisfaction, thecurrent research focused only on needs satisfaction of the u.s. definedby TSP. Following Benson's (1998) strong program of constructvalidity, validity evidence for the S-BNSG was gathered for thestructural and external stages. In regards to the structural stage, the current study provided (a) empirical evidence of the multidimensionalnature of needs and (b) evidence of a negative methodeffect associated with the s.-BNSG In regards to the external stage, the current study makes a theoretical contribution by providingfurther evidence that the three factors are distinct needs andare, in general, related to external variables in theoretical andthe meaningful ways. Although previous studies have used theBNSG-S and have reported relationships between the needs andvarious constructs, this is the first study that has examined thedimensionality of the measure and used the resulting factor structureto assess relationships with theoretically-related variables. Inconclusion, this study brings us one step closer to creating a qualitymeasure of needs satisfaction.
