Cut nyak dien atau dikenal juga Tjoet nja' dhien adalah seorang sosok pahlawan wanita dari aceh barat yang mendapat julukan srikandi Indonesia. Ayah cut nyak dien bernama teuku nan setia. Cut nyak dien dilahirkan pada tahun 1848 di lampadang,aceh.

Suami cut nyak dien yang pertama adalah teuku cek Ibrahim lamnga, anak dari teuku abas. Dan dikarunia anak perempuan yang di beri nama cut gambang. Ketika Perang Aceh meletus tahun 1873, Teuku Ibrahim turut aktif di garis depan. Cut Nyak Dien selalu memberikan dukungan dan dorongan semangat.

Semangat juang dan perlawanan Cut Nyak Dien bertambah kuat saat Belanda membakar Masjid Besar Aceh. Dengan semangat menyala, beliau mengajak seluruh rakyat Aceh untuk terus berjuang. Saat Teuku Ibrahim gugur, di tengah kesedihan, beliau bertekad meneruskan perjuangan. Dua tahun setelah kematian suami pertamanya tepatnya pada tahun 1880, Cut Nyak Dien menikah lagi dengan Teuku Umar. Seperti Teuku Ibrahim, Teuku Umar adalah pejuang kemerdekaan yang hebat.

Bersama Cut Nyak Dien, perlawananyang dipimpin Teuku Umar bertambah hebat. Sebagai pemimpin yang cerdik, Teuku Umar pernah mengecoh Belanda dengan pura-pura bekerja sama pada tahun 1893, sebelum kemudian kembali memeranginya dengan membawa Iari senjata dan perlengkapan peranglain. Namun, dalam pertempuran di Meulaboh tanggal 11 Februari 1899 ,Teuku Umar gugur. Sejak meninggalnya Teuku Umar, selama 6 tahun Cut Nyak Dien mengatur serangan besar- besaran terhadap beberapa kedudukan Belanda. Seluruh barang berharga yang masih dimilikinya dikorbankan untuk biaya perang. Meski tanpa dukungan dari seorang suami, perjuangannya tidak pernah surut. Perlawanan yang dilakukan secara bergerilya itu dirasakan Belanda sangat mengganggu, bahkan membahayakan pendudukan mereka di tanah Aceh sehingga pasukan Belanda selalu berusaha menangkapnya.

Begitu teguhnya pendirian Cut Nyak Dien, bahkan ketika sudah terkepung dan hendak ditangkap dalam kondisi rabun pun masih sempat mencabut rencong dan berusaha melawan pasukan Belanda. Pasukan Belanda yang begitu banyak akhirnya berhasil menangkap tangannya. Beliau marah luar biasa kepada Pang LaotAli. Namun,walau pun di dalam tawanan, Cut Nyak Dien masih terus melakukan kontak dengan para pejuang yang belum tunduk. Tindakannya itu kembali membuat pihak Belanda berang sehingga beliau akhirnya dibuang ke Sumedang, Jawa Barat, pada 11 Desember 1906.

Cut Nyak Dien yang tiba dalam kondisi lusuh dengan tangan tak lepas memegang tasbih ini tidak dikenal sebagian besar penduduk Sumedang. Beliau dititipkan kepada Bupati Sumedang, Pangeran Aria Suriaatmaja, bersama dua tawanan lain, salah seorang bekas panglima perangnya yang berusia sekitar 50 tahun dan kemenakan beliau yang baru berusia 15 tahun. Belanda sama sekali tidak memberitahu siapa para tawanan itu. Melihat perempuan yang amat taat beragama itu, Pangeran Aria tidak menempatkannya di penjara, tetapi di rumah H. Ilyas, seorang tokoh agama, di belakang Masjid Besar Sumedang. Perilaku beliau yang taat beragama dan menolak semua pemberian Belanda menimbulkan rasa hormat dan simpati banyak orang yang kemudian datang mengunjungi membawakan pakaian atau makanan. Cut Nyak Dien, perempuan pejuang pemberani ini meninggal pada 6 November 1908 di sumedang,jawa barat. Beliau dimakamkan secara Hormat di Gunung Puyuh, sebuah komplek pemakaman para bangsawan Sumedang
