Langkah 1: Mambagi kelompok
Siswa dibagi menjadi beberapa kelompok yang terdiri dari 3-4 orang dalam masing-masing kelompok. Jumlah anggota yang pandai dan tidak pandai hendaknya sama dalam masing-masing kelompok.
Langkah 2: Menyusun paragraph yang acak
Pada langkah ini guru memberikan potongan-potongan paragraph acak untuk disusun oleh anggota kelompok menjadi susunan yang benar. Ketika mereka menyusun teks ini siswa secara otomatis sudah saling berdiskusi mengenahi organisasi teks yang benar sesuai dengan jenis teksnya. Dan teks ini akan menjadi model tulisan bagi siswa.
