Penerjemah bukanlah pekerjaan enten

Penerjemah bukanlah pekerjaan enteng. Seorang penerjemah memiliki tanggung jawab yang sangat besar akan hasil akhir dokumen yang ia terjemahkan. Dia tak boleh keliru dalam memindahkan bahasa dari teks sumber ke teks sasaran. Kesalahan pada hasil terjemahan jelas menyebabkan kesalahan pada pesan yang sebenarnya ingin disampaikan dari teks sumber. Memang akibatnya tidak fatal jika kekeliruan terjemahan pada kalimat-kalimat yang tak memberikan makna inti. Tapi bayangkan jika kalimat inti keliru diterjemahkan. Contoh kesalahan fatal dari penerjemah adalah kesalahan pada terjadinya bom Hiroshima dan Nagasaki. Ketika pemerintah Jepang meminta tenggang waktu untuk mempertimbangkan tawaran negara Barat, malah diartikan sebagai tawaran penolakan hingga terjadilah pengeboman.
