Secara umum linguistic adalah bahasa atau ilmu yang mengambil bahasa sebagai objek kajiannya .
Ferdinan Dee Sanssure (Prancis)di anggap sebagai pelopor linguistic modern.
Bukunya yang terkenal adalah Cours de linguistique generale (1916).
Beberapa istilah yang digunakan olehnya adalah yang digunakan dalam linguistic, yaitu:
1) Language.
>>Adalah satu kemampuan berbahasa yang ada pada setiap manusia yang sifatnya pembawaan.
2) Langue.
>>Adalah mengacu pada suatu sitem bahasa tertentu yang ada dalam benak seseorang.
3) Parole.
>>Adalah ujaran yang di ucapkan atau di dengar oleh kita.
